Home of the Icelandic composer Òlafur Arnalds, Mercury KX invite you to the record label’s exclusive launch event at Omeara, London Bridge. On 20th February Mercury KX will be celebrating their launch with some special performances from label artists including Berlin-based Argentinian Sebastian Plano and the mysteriously masked LAMBERT.
In addition to the performances there will be an opportunity to meet the team and an informal panel discussion with Ólafur Arnalds and label head Alexander Buhr, where they’ll talk more in depth about the label, the music, and beyond.
Free drinks and light food will be provided as well as a complimentary goodie bag to take home.
As part of Universal Music Group, Mercury KX is excited to be the first post-classical imprint operating within a major music group.
Mercury KX aims to identify and work with strong creative individuals that bring a distinctive and fresh perspective to contemporary music, whether they are young artists approaching the genre in a new way, or established musicians, outside the field, curious about exploring the genre.
It’s not even two years ago that a pianist with a Sardinian mask that looks like an antelope suddenly stepped into the public eye. Some say he was born in Hamburg, Germany, where he began learning the piano, though little is known about this elusive figure. The likes of Nils Frahm are credited on his self-released debut album, now on Mercury KX, while reworks of José Gonzalez, Phoenix and Moderat have recently surfaced. LAMBERT‘s piano is moving, from Satie-esque moments over modal Jazz towards grand, romantic pop moments.
Sebastian Plano (performing)
Sebastian Plano is a classically-trained composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist. Sebastian explores his strong Argentinian roots in folk music and Tango, which he seamlessly intertwines with electronics and loops. Having lived in Argentina, the USA, Italy, Portugal and Germany, Sebastian has found it natural to collaborate with like-minded artists across the world and across genres.
Recently he has been involved in a collaborative project with choreographer Kat Válastur and the Munich Philharmonic on a new composition for quintet and electronics. Sebastian's collaboration with ex-Kronos Quartet's cellist Jeffrey Zeigler takes part on his forthcoming EP album called "Novel". A release date for his third solo full length album is soon to be announced on Mercury KX.
Solomon Grey (in attendance, track premiere)
Solomon Grey is the London based project of musicians, producers and composers Tom Kingston and Joe Wilson. The band released two singles via tastemaker labels Black Butter and Kitsuné before releasing their debut album in March 2016 via Decca Records. The duo’s reputation for producing distinct and contemporary cinematic music has led them to become sought after Film & TV composers – having previously scored the soundtrack to the BBC & HBO production of JK Rowling’s The Casual Vacancy they are currently working on a new BBC 1 drama series scheduled for summer 2017.
